Science

Science education is most commonly broken down into the following three fields: Biology, chemistry, and physics.

Maths

Mathematics courses at BLIS are meticulously designed to cultivate not only academic excellence but also to instill essential life skills.

Turkish

Lise Türkçe programı, okulumuzun bağlı olduğu IGCSE ve IB programları ile ulusal program öğretim müfredatı ilişkilendirilerek oluşturulmuştur.

TSS

Social studies can also be referred to as social sciences. It’s a field which deals with human behavior, relationships, resources, and institutions.

ISS

The social sciences encourage the systemic and critical study of: human experience and behaviour.

Modern Language

Drama and Theatre

Drama is taught as an elective course thrugh Grade 9 and 10, and BDP Theatre is offered as an option with in Group 6 of the Diploma Programme (Standart and High Level)

The art at BLIS are central to our mission and the fine Arts are proud of the incredibly high level of work consistenly product by our students.

About

What goes into a good high school?We seek comparability with other schools throughout the world through IGCSE (The International General Certificate of Secondary Education) from the University of Cambridge International Examinations and the IBDP (The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme). Grades 9 and 10 use the results of the IGCSE as a measure of solidly learned skills in multiple areas of study.This combined with the IB Diploma allows a BLIS student to apply to universities in Turkey and around the world.Our school offers much more because we center our educational program around the whole child, the world citizen in us all.We offer multiple languages, trips, sports and the arts to round off the individual to be a global citizen.This emphasis on who one is as well as what one accomplishes makes a BLIS student stand out as someone special.

CAS

CAS, which stands for Creativity, Activity, Service is in the core of the Diploma Program. CAS is a unique initiative that goes beyond traditional academic learning, fostering creativity, promoting physical activities, and encouraging community service. At our school, CAS plays a central role in shaping well-rounded, socially responsible, and empathetic individuals. It’s not just a mandatory requirement but a transformative journey for our students. It begins at the onset of the Diploma Program and continues for 18 months, allowing students to explore and engage in a diverse range of creative pursuits, physical activities, and meaningful community service initiatives. At Bilkent University Laboratory and International School, we believe in providing a balanced and enriching CAS experience. Our students are encouraged to strike a reasonable equilibrium between creativity, activity, and service. We invite our students, parents, and the wider community to actively participate and support our CAS initiatives.

TOK

IBDP Theory of Knowledge

It asks students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, and on how we know what we claim to know. TOK is part of the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) core, and is mandatory for all students. As a thoughtful and purposeful inquiry into different ways of knowing, and into different kinds of knowledge, TOK is a challenging course. The course is built around knowledge questions. In TOK students gain a greater awareness of their personal and ideological assumptions, as well as developing an appreciation of the diversity and richness of cultural perspectives.

Extended Essay

The extended essay is an IB Diploma Requirement for all IB students. It is a 4000-word research essay. Students select a subject (from the 6 IB subject groups) with teacher guidance and investigate their chosen research question. There is much emphasis on the process of writing a research paper.

University Advising

The process of selecting a university is an important step in a student’s education. With so many options and requirements the task can seem daunting. BLIS is dedicated to helping students get through this difficult task and start on the path to their goals. Our University Advising department provides support for students applying to universities in Turkey, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and numerous other countries in the world, always with an eye toward the best fit for the student. As part of this program, we have developed this portion of the website to assist students and families through the university application process.

Please also note that BLIS uses Bridge U to plan for and monitor all student applications. All grade 10 – 12 students and parents should have an account. Please contact one of the counselors for more information.

Bilkent Laboratory & International School (BLIS) is a proud member of the Bilkent family.

Located on the rolling hills of Bilkent University high above the city of Ankara, BLIS provides a rigorous academic program from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program from Pre-Kindergarten through the 12th grade IB Diploma.
