Overview

BLIS offers educational programs from Pre-K through to the end of Grade 12, within
both a national and international frameworks.
The implementation of any international curricular framework does not preclude the
teaching and assessment of all Turkish Ministry of Education learning objectives.
To gain a BLIS High School Diploma a student must both meet All Turkish Ministry of
Education requirements and pass the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
BLIS courses are taught through a combination of Turkish and English.
The following is an overview of how the school’s educational programs unfold
across the school divisions:

1. Elementary School

Grades PK – K: English immersion education implementing the Turkish Ministry
of Education curriculum, and Cambridge learning objectives, all within the
framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme
(PYP).
Grades 1 – 4: Bilingual education implementing the Turkish Ministry of Education
curriculum, and Cambridge learning objectives, all within the framework of the
International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

2. Middle School

Grades 5 – 8: English and Turkish medium education implementing the Turkish
Ministry of Education curriculum, and Cambridge learning objectives, all within
the framework of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.

3. High School

Grade 9 – 10: English medium education implementing Cambridge curricular
objectives, with additional Turkish Ministry of Education learning objectives, to
allow completion of the International General Certificate of Secondary
Education (IGCSE). This is a two-year programme leading to examinations
which are set, marked and certificated by the University of Cambridge.

Grades 11 – 12: English medium education implementing the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) with additional Turkish Ministry of
Education learning objectives. Two years of work leds to the award of the IB
Diploma, which requires not only serious academic study in six subject groups
but also reflection on the nature of knowledge, independent research and the
completion of community service projects.
To be awarded a BLIS High School diploma, students must satisfy all
requirements of the Turkish Ministry of Education and must pass the IB
Diploma.
