Design
Course Explanation:
“The Design Course at BLIS adheres to the principles of the Middle Years Program (MYP). This curriculum encourages students to employ practical and inventive thinking to address design challenges. Students delve into the historical and contemporary contexts of design, exploring the impact and significance of design decisions. Throughout these activities, the primary aim is to instill a process-oriented approach rather than a focus solely on outcomes. Within each unit, students engage with the design cycle, progressing through four key stages: inquiring and analyzing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating. Emphasizing a comprehensive design process, MYP design encourages a holistic approach. In this academically rigorous course, students not only craft solutions but also critically reflect on their creative and analytical thinking methods.
Assessment in the MYP Design course focuses on evaluating students’ ability to apply the design cycle, think creatively, and critically analyze their design processes. Students are assessed based on their understanding of design principles, problem-solving abilities, and their capacity to communicate and justify design decisions.
The MYP Design course aims to cultivate essential skills in students, nurturing their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities within the realm of design. Through practical applications and critical reflections, students develop a deeper understanding of the role of design in shaping the world around them.
